A new world record has been set for 5GHz Wi-Fi transmission distance. One group was based in Italy and one in Sardinia, at a distance of 188.89 miles. The record was broken by the Italian Center for Radio Activities and Ubiquiti Networks, which provided some of the necessary gadgets.

Apparently someone flushed something big and nasty down the Intarwebs’ tubes and the whole thing went down in flames. Or at least, the Onion says while a world of commentards yawns, scratches its balls and then says, Gaaaaaaahd, that’s so old.

People are modifying old cameras to take photos ‘through the viewfinder’ of the old camera, usually with newer digital cameras. Some of the more common ones are Twin Lens reflex models, but people are doing it with all kinds. The group discussion includes a lot of ‘how-to’ info with making ‘contraptions.’ Here’s a photo of mine — a modified copy of someone else’s version (above)…

One of the lesser known gems of the Yahoo User Interface library is the Region utility which is part of the Dom utility. The documentation only mentions it and what it gives you but doesn’t quite live up to how powerful it can be in day to day interface development.

The tie clip MP3 player is exactly what is says, a tie clip MP3 player. What’s a tie clip? For shame! A tie clip is a simple clasp or clip used to keep the two dangling ends of a tie together. Sometimes it’s even clipped to the dress shirt underneath so your tie won’t move. Now, throw in a single line LCD, some simple play/stop controls, and a little flash memory and you’ve got yourself a tie clip MP3 player.
