Many of our oenophile readers will dig this Riedel Amadeo Lyra Decanter, a gorgeous crystal vessel that will embrace your prized vintages in complete elegance. Now we can stop drinking that rotgut straight from the bottle, and maybe pour it into a glass or two. Or we could still quaff it straight from this curvaceous container, which resembles a Spanish porrón, spilling out a thin jet of wine for oodles of hands-free, group-drinking fun. But this carafe is much too swank for such vulgar activities.

This is such a “duh” thing to do, I wish I would have thought of it. The Plug-in Side Table is exactly that. It serves the function of a side table or nightstand but you’re supposed to plug it in so it can double as a light.

To prepare for a natural disaster, you need to be equipped. Maximize your survival rate by inundating any and everything that could possibly be used for food, water, and light. In regard to the latter, boozehounds will rejoice to hear that having multiple bottles of “drank” may indeed save them.

O amor é presença perene no coração.

Gensou Hyouhon Hakubutsukan (”Museum of Fantastic Specimens”) is an online collection of creatures “curated” by Hajime Emoto. The three-story virtual museum consists of 9 rooms chock full of water- and land-dwelling monstrosities from all corners of the globe. Each specimen has a clickable thumbnail that links to additional photos and historical and background information (in Japanese). The basement contains a bookshop and a cafeteria serving dishes prepared with some of the beasts featured in the museum (such as umiushi sashimi, served fresh from the tank and wriggling on your plate, with a balsamic vinegar sauce).

If you have a large image that you need to make smaller you can either scale it or crop it. Scaling makes everything smaller and cropping can cut out important content. This jaw-dropping video demonstrates an image re-sizing algorithm that is content-aware. I was amazed; I hope it’s real and coming to Firefox extension soon.

As USB drives become even more commoditized, now they’re turned into scary looking jewelry in the form of these Olinari sterling silver dog tags. Choose from the fleur-de-lis style you see here or a few others you can see in the gallery, some of which make you look like you’ve been tapped into the Knights of the Round Table. Inside the pendant, there’s a little secret.
